Before earning a degree in public relations from University of Texas at Austin, Serena accepted a job at MTV News & Docs in New York City, where she covered the 2000 presidential election. Eight years later, she walked into a pole fitness class at an S Factor studio and fell in love with it.

When she moved home to Austin in January 2011, she attended classes at every existing pole studio and left disappointed each time. She felt that classes either exploited the feminine form for external validation in the name of 'empowerment' or shunned a woman's feminine form altogether in the name of 'empowerment'. Frustrated, in March 2011, she attended the two week S Factor teacher training immersion course at their Costa Mesa studio. Later, she would complete the Xpole Xpert training program in NYC. With her recent certification as a Warrior Goddess Training facilitator Serena weaves toltec wisdom, movement therapy and technical teaching techniques into every course offering.

When Serena returned to Austin, she started teaching S Factor inspired classes at different studios. In 2014 she launched a Kickstarter fundraising campaign, reached goal and began the process of bringing Bon Bon Barre's first studio location to life.

When she's not teaching a dance class she's leading a coaching workshop (she specializes in helping women get to their next level with her soulful practical 1:1 coaching) or producing an online music show for Statesman Media.
